No surprise I suppose, when you look at their consumption of corn syrup-based drinks, and sedentary life-style. The only exercise is thumbing in a text message.
Now a new study determines that obesity and smoking causes hearing damage. So let’s see. People are getting fatter, continue smoking in spite of obvious health damage, constantly have mp3 players or cell phones at their eardrums and there’s a link to hearing loss.
Here’s an idea. Maybe there’s a link between noise induced hearing loss and digital hearing aids.
By digital hearing aids I am facetiously including the ipod and amplified music generators.
While many people enjoy music in their ears constantly, or even listening to pod casts for information, high volume levels and long durations of amplified sound can cause irreparable hearing loss and permanent hearing problems over time.
Of particular concern revealed in the study was that smokers and the obese had difficulty picking out high frequency sounds, even though they were not affected by noise induced hearing loss.
Their hearing loss was proportional to how much they smoked and their Body Mass Index. Smoking and obesity have the doubling effect of reducing blood flow, reducing oxygen intake and damaging all internal organs.
Smoking in middle age is also linked to declined memory and reasoning capabilities. One of the methods to stop smoking is to use quit smoking aids such as a smoking pill.
The best way to reduce obesity is to eat less and exercise more. Let’s hope Physical Education month brings a greater awareness that we all need to take care of our bodies, and take responsibility for our health choices.
Physical Education Dunces…
Physical education seems to be sorely lacking in our public school system. Now that schools are basically the only source of food for kids, parents don’t seem too concerned about their lack of good diet knowledge or any physical fitness standards….
Physical education is the one of the technique for the stop smoking like meditation, exercises like that.
