I’ve been trying to clean up my diet recently after having slumped into some lazy eating habits and convenience foods that lack great nutrition. Many years ago I was much more diligent about eating high quality foods and was an early adopter of fresh fruits and vegetables as the mainstay of healthy living.

A diet of fruit has been a time proven regimen to help improve health and maintain vitality. And a convenient way to enjoy fruit is to use a fruit juicer.

Fruit juicers come in wide range of styles, function, and price. A simple citrus juice extractor, even a manual ‘ribbed dome’ style can be useful for orange and lemon juice. But of course it is quite limited in being a juicer for any other type of fruit.

If you want to test the waters of a high fruit diet, and use juicers as part of it, a simple fruit juicer can serve. But to get the full benefit of juicers fruit and vegetables a more versatile and usually more expensive juicer is advisable.

Plenty of good quality juicers are available so look for one that can juice the fruits and vegetables you already know, but allow for some experimentation as you become more adventurous and looking for variety.

Another overlooked part of a good diet is the frequent inclusion of nuts and berries. Nuts are a great source of high energy, high value convenient snack food. Berries are extremely nutritious and should be part of your juicer appetite.

A newly popular berry called Synsepalum dulcificum is an African native that has the unusual trait of fooling your taste buds into believing it tastes like something completely different. Also called Miracle Fruit, this red berry with a pulpy covering over a inner seed contains the protein miraculin that causes a sweet-tasting sensation on contact with acid.

Synsepalum dulcificum has not be successful as an alternative to sugar sweetening but it does have a following for other food and drink fancies.

Becoming more aware of an original diet of fruit, vegetables, nut and berries will make the purchase of a fruit juicer worthwhile, and who knows you might soon be chewing Synsepalum dulcificum at your next meal.
