Early messaging indicated a Blackberry outage affecting AT&T users in the Southeast but others are reporting issues internationally and growing as data is being rerouted through different datacenters. No further information has been released at this time.
The purpose of the planned outage is a BlackBerry Infrastructure version upgrade.
RIM and AT&T need to increase the reliability of the Blackberry network. The users are mostly corporate and instituional users who rely heavily on the service. They need to realize how dependent BlackBerry users are on their email messaging. AT&T lack of service reliability was highly publicized during an outage August 1st, which was soon after outages on July 20th and July 2nd.
Update 13:40 EDT
Issue has been resolved.
Area affected was Southeast markets and surrounding areas.
Period of outage was 3½ hours.
