Actually the best thing about an Orlando vacation is not Orlando at all. It’s the deals you can get on travel fares there, and competitive rental car rates, so you can then head out to the rest of Florida.
There are plenty of attractions within driving distance of the state’s central airport, and easily worth taking some overnight stays in other locations.
One such reasonable road trip is down to the Kennedy Space Center and catch a space shuttle launch or landing.
In fact, the space shuttle Discovery is in countdown right now for a launch at 5 pm eastern. The mission is to attach a Japanese laboratory module to the international space station. Oh, and it’s a plumber’s call to fix the space station’s toilet.
The shuttle’s scheduled return is on June 14, 11am. If you can’t get to the launch today then maybe you can make it to the landing in a couple of weeks.
What better way to see something amazing, and yet almost prosaic these days, than a high tech adventure that’s not in a theme park while on a, ahem, Orlando vacation?
