Amy Winehouse was rushed to hospital last week after collapsing. She was diagnosed with a chronic lung disease, emphysema, which may have been brought on by smoking crack cocaine.

Emphysema clogs the lungs and leaves them unable to fully transfer oxygen, leading to shortness of breath. It is often caused by smoking tobacco and breathing other lung irritants such as asbestos dust and coal dust.

For Amy Winehouse, 24, who is infamous for her erratic and drug induced behavior, her emphysema is probably caused by smoking crack.

Winehouse’s doctors warned her that if she continues smoking it will not only ruin her voice but also kill her.

Her emphysema has been resulted in a 30 % reduction in lung capacity from smoking drugs and cigarettes.

Mitch Winehouse, Amy’s father, said he hoped his daughter will quit smoking and be able to lead a normal life again.
