Another sordid celebrity case unfolds with the guilty pleas of Kelly Ryan Titus and Craig Titus. The two former bodybuilding stars admitted killing their personal assistant, Melissa James, after first claiming she had died from a drug overdose. Perhaps the drug abuse and rehab connection should be applied to the Titus couple. Note that there is no evidence or suspicion that there were any drugs involved in the killing of Melissa James

After several high profile cases of drug abuse, especially with steroids, that have come to light amongst professional sports players, one wonders if the personalities involved in bodybuilding and other highly competitive sports have poor judgment of right and wrong and leads to addiction to performance-enhancing-drugs with concommitant side-effects.

Car and truck sales are tanking these days as consumer debt breaks the budget and rising gas prices sucks more out of disposable income.

There’s a big loss in value of a new vehicle as soon as it leaves the dealer’s lot, and the capital or payments on a loan could be put to better use.

Not that there are thrilling returns in the stock market either, and plunging rates of exchange of the dollar to other currencies is eroding purchasing power.

Meanwhile the Fed and the Treasury are still spending more than they own as if there’s no connection to the market. They don’t need to worry about value in a new car purchase.

How about an Orlando vacation? Yeah, maybe a little hackneyed if you’ve been there before and went to just Disney World. But that’s not the only theme park, and theme parks are not the only reason to go to Orlando.

Actually the best thing about an Orlando vacation is not Orlando at all. It’s the deals you can get on travel fares there, and competitive rental car rates, so you can then head out to the rest of Florida.

There are plenty of attractions within driving distance of the state’s central airport, and easily worth taking some overnight stays in other locations.

What would it be like to live in an old villa in the south of France? Perhaps with a large estate to run?

Some people can only dream of such a life. Some can experience it for brief periods as a visiting tourist.

But for the well-healed international elite, luxury real estate in France can be acquired for a reasonable sum.

A newly named spider called Titiotus shasta looks similar to the infamous Brown Recluse spider that we have all heard about and fear. However the difference is obvious when placed side by side.

But who wants to play comparisons with a harmless shasta and a deadly brown recluse? Perhaps your spider pest control man would be interested in being sure which is which, but then again insect and pest control is usually a wide spectrum kill all critters approach.

If you use pest control for spiders you probably just want all spiders dead whether brown recluse or not.

Reminiscent of the 1998 movie "Left Behind", a couple on a scuba diving vacation excursion claim they were left behind in open water by their scuba dive boat.

At first, details were that the couple were part of a recreational trip for scuba diving in a Great Barrier Reef lagoon off the coast of Queensland, Australia.

They say they were left to drift  in shark infested waters before being rescued 19 hours later.

After rescue and medical checkups the couple’s story and the report from the scuba diving vacation operator brought out a few discrepancies.

Reports of finding an uncontacted tribe in the Amazon rain forest brings up romantic imagery of an earlier innocent and ignorant age of exploration and confiscation.

Now that this tribe have been identified are they still uncontacted or lost? Once something has been discovered can it ever be pristine, untouched, and lost again?

This week also revealed news of a photograph of an endangered species Javan rhinoceros. It has been on a threatened species list for some time and proclaimed extinct.

There is some comfort in knowing that industrial man has not completely discovered the planet’s small corners and that there is still the possibility for giant animals and exotic animals to roam naturally. Who knew there could still be habitat for such wildlife?

I’ve been trying to clean up my diet recently after having slumped into some lazy eating habits and convenience foods that lack great nutrition. Many years ago I was much more diligent about eating high quality foods and was an early adopter of fresh fruits and vegetables as the mainstay of healthy living.

A diet of fruit has been a time proven regimen to help improve health and maintain vitality. And a convenient way to enjoy fruit is to use a fruit juicer.

Fruit juicers come in wide range of styles, function, and price. A simple citrus juice extractor, even a manual ‘ribbed dome’ style can be useful for orange and lemon juice. But of course it is quite limited in being a juicer for any other type of fruit.

Recently published results of a  study by the CDC reveals oxybenzone contaminates most Americans, causing cell damage, hormone disruption, and allergies. Oxybenzone is a common ingredient in sunscreen and a cosmetic skin penetration enhancer.

The chemical was last reviewed by the FDA in the 1970’s and is widely used in sunscreens made by Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic, and Banana Boat, plus many other cosmetics such as lip balm, lipstick, and skin lotions.

So what does this mean? Using sunscreen causes cancer?
